Rumpl blankets are all the rage on social media in 2023, with people singing the product's praises left and right. With a starting price tag of $99 for a single blanket, they're also one of the more expensive outdoor blankets on the market.
Are they worth the cost? Spoiler alert: they are!
Check out what separates Rumpl blankets from cheaper options and if they're worth the hefty price tag. Here's everything you wanted to know about the material quality, performance, and features of the Rumpl blankets so you can decide if you want to spend your nights under the stars wrapped in a Rumpl.
History of Rumpl
Rumpl started with a simple question: why can't blankets be as technical and well-designed as all the other gear you take outdoors, such as lanterns and camping tables?
This question arose in 2013 as Wylie Robinson and his friends huddled in their sleeping bags in the back of a broken-down van waiting for someone to help. Once he got back to his San Francisco apartment, he went to work and created the first Rumpl blanket.
With the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign, Rumpl became an official company with one product: the Original Puffy Blanket. Since then, they've expanded their product line to include various materials, sizes, and designs.
Rumpl's mission has stayed the same — to make technical gear that looks great and works better than anything else.

What Are Rumpl Blankets?
Rumpl emphasizes three main things regarding their blankets: functionality, durability, and style.
At first glance, the Rumpl blanket looks like a modern-day quilt merged with the construction and fabric of a puffy jacket and a sleeping bag. In a sense, that's correct. Rumpl blankets work by trapping heat between the layers and pockets of fabric — much like a sleeping bag, down puffy jacket, and a quilt.
Material-wise, Rumpl blankets are much more like puffy jackets. They are highly weather-resistant and lightweight.
What Sets Rumpl Blankets Apart?
There are a few things that set Rumpl blankets apart from the competition.
First, Rumpl truly means it when they say the blanket is suitable for everywhere. With the ability to pack them into the size of a large drinking thermos, these Rumpl blankets are super lightweight and can fit anywhere from the back of the car trunk, hiking backpack, beach bag, or even a tote handbag.
They're also weather-resistant. You can use them as a sleeping bag liner, a camping blanket, or even as a fashion statement.
Environment-Conscious Products
Rumpl makes their blankets from 100 percent recycled material.
This doesn't mean the blanket quality is second-rate. Instead, Rumpl has gone above and beyond to create a blanket that is not only stylish but also highly durable. Since 2019, the company has upcycled millions of used plastic bottles and turned them into Rumpl blankets. By purchasing Rumpl blankets, consumers are actively minimizing their carbon footprints and helping the environment.
Rumpl's sustainable practices don't stop at the product level. They have made a great effort as a Climate Neutral Certified company to make their Rumpl operations carbon-neutral. From the materials they use to how they ship products, Rumpl does everything with sustainability. They've also implemented green initiatives in their packaging, including using recycled materials and soy-based inks.
In 2023, Rumpl is registered as a B Corp Certified company, committing to remain transparent and accountable in its operations to help create a better future for everyone. They pledge to donate one percent of each sale towards environmental non-profit organizations such as the National Parks Foundation, Save The Waves Foundation, Raincoast Conservation Foundation, 5 Gyres, and Outdoor Afro.

Exterior Rumpl Blanket Material
Rumpl makes their blankets with a highly durable 100 percent recycled 20D ripstop polyester fabric. Ripstop is traditionally used for tents, sails, sleeping bags, and flags.
20D stands for 20 denier, meaning the fabric has threads that weigh 20 grams per 9000 meters. In comparison, most hiking backpacks use a 400D to 600D fabric. The higher-end lightweight camping backpacks use materials between 100D to 200D, and the standard sleeping bags are between 30D to 80D. So at 30D, the fabric is light and very compressible, yet soft and silky to the touch.
At the same time, the ripstop fabric allows much more durability against tears and rips and better heat retention.
In addition, all Rumpl blankets include a 90/10 DWR coating for maximum water-resistant ability.
Types of Rumpl Blanket Batting
Since developing their original puffy blanket, Rumpl has released three other outdoor blankets: NanoLoft Puffy Blanket, Down Puffy Blanket, and Featherlite Down Blanket. These three blankets each have an extra interior batting to accommodate different customer niches.
Original Puffy Blanket
The Rumpl Original Puffy Blanket uses 3D hollow fiber polyester as insulation batting. Rumpl's take on the classic synthetic batting is that it dries quickly, doesn't clump, and provides excellent heat retention.
Rumpl claims their hollow fiber polyester is as soft as duck down.
NanoLoft® Puffy Blanket
The Rumpl NanoLoft® Puffy Blanket uses their trademarked synthetic insulation instead of the 3D hollow fiber polyester.
This insulation comes from 100 percent recycled material from used water bottles. The structure takes shape as tiny tuffs of material similar to natural down feathers to maximize heat retention and give that extra pillowy feel.
Down Puffy Blanket
The Rumpl Down Puffy Blanket contains 600 fill-power duck down feathers from sustainable sources. Rumpl has treated them with a specialized hydrophobic plasma treatment to keep the organic material as water-resistant as possible. Not only is the insulation easy to clean, but also resistant to fungal growth.
Featherlite Down Blanket
The Featherlite Down Blanket is Rumpl's top-line deluxe product. Instead of duck feathers, the Featherlite Down Blanket contains 800 fill-power goose down feather insulation. The 800 fill-power means that the goose feathers are better quality and create more giant clumps than the 600 fill-power duck feathers (the size difference between a quarter and a dime).
The end product is a much higher quality blanket with less weight and extra fluffiness.
Rumpl Blanket Size Options
The Rumpl blankets come in three sizes: throw, 1-person, and 2-person.
The throw blankets are 50" x 70" and weigh 2.1 lbs. It fits nicely over a twin-size bed and runs slightly small over a full-size bed. The 1-person blanket measures 54" x 80" and weighs 3.1 lbs. It fits snugly over a full-size bed but is too narrow for a queen-size bed. The 2-person option is 88" x 84" and comes at 4.8 lbs. It's perfect for a regular king-size bed and roomy for a queen-size bed.
How Much Do Rumpl Blankets Cost?
Rumpl blankets are not cheap.
The Original Puffy blanket begins at $99, the NanoLoft® Puffy Blanket will set you back at least $179, the Down Puffy Blanket is a minimum of $249, and their top-of-the-line Featherlite Down Blanket costs a whopping $399. The prices are higher if you want to upgrade to a 2-person size blanket or select a design in collaboration with specific artists or brands.
The bonus is that Rumpl offers free shipping and returns for all purchases over $49. If you have Amazon Prime, you can enjoy faster shipping by shopping at the Amazon Rumpl store. In addition, all blankets come with a 100-day risk-free trial. So you can buy the blanket and test it out for three months before making a final decision.

Are Rumpl Blankets Worth the Price?
The Rumpl blankets are not for everyone. If you're looking for an inexpensive blanket to take to the beach or on a camping trip, then Rumpl is not the right brand for you. However, if you're in the market for a high-quality, durable, and stylish blanket, Rumpl is worth considering.
If you are conscientious about purchasing environmental-friendly products or products that give back to the community, Rumpl is an excellent option.

6. Travel Size Rumpl NanoLoft Puffy Blanket
by Rumpl

Customers love the versatility of this Rumpl blanket and often find themselves using it for more than just camping. Anywhere you can fit a water bottle, you can fit this blanket. As a result, it serves as an excellent option for emergency blankets inside the car trunk or earthquake kits.
If you've ever been camping with kids, you know nighttime can be kinda rough, especially without adequate bedding. This blanket is also a perfect size for kids. Instead of purchasing the Junior Rumpl blanket (28" x 40"), the travel size (38" x 52") is a better option as they won't outgrow it as quickly.
For dog parents, the travel-size puffy blanket is a great way to create a makeshift bed for their fur babies. Believe it or not, the exterior cover holds up well against their nails, saliva, and fur. Toss the blanket into the washer to make it like new.
